  2. Eating the right food Diet- foods you eat and the beverages you drink To have a high level of wellness you need to include the 6 kinds of nutrients into your diet Nutrients- Substances in food that your body uses for energy and for growth and repair of cells

  3. Proteins Nutrients your body uses for growth and repair of cells and to supply energy Protein builds, maintains, and replaces the tissues in your body. Your muscles, your organs, and your immune system are made up mostly of protein. Proteins have specific jobs like making hemoglobin (Part of red blood cell that carries oxygen), and they also build cardiac muscle Eggs, cheese, milk, fish, beans, nuts, turkey, chicken, beef, and pork

  4. Carbohydrates Nutrients that are the most useful supply of energy for your body. Body breaks them down into simple sugars. Simple Carbs- Called simple sugars found in white sugar. Stick to foods that don’t add sugars. Complex Carbs- Called starches found in grains. Stick to unprocessed Bread, rice, potatoes, cereals, noodles, fruits, vegetables

  5. Fats Nutrients your body uses for energy and to help store some vitamins. Unsaturated- found in plant foods and fish. olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil, albacore tuna, and salmon. Saturated- found in meats/animal products. butter, cheese, and all milk. Trans fats- Found in baked goods, snacks, and fried foods. Too much is a bad thing. Raises cholesterol and chance for heart disease like saturated fats. Hamburger, steak, pork, margarine, butter, milk, ice cream, peanut butter, salad dressing

  6. Vitamins Nutrients that help regulate body processes and fight disease. Promote growth of new cells. Vitamin D in milk helps your bones. Vitamin A in carrots helps you see at night. Vitamin C in oranges helps your body heal if you get a cut. B vitamins in leafy green vegetables help your body make protein and energy. Fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, breads, cereals, eggs, vitamin supplements

  7. Minerals Nutrients that help regulate body processes and build new cells. Fluoride is added to drinking water to make teeth strong. Calcium=strong bones Iron=transport oxygen from lungs to rest of body Potassium=muscles and nervous system Fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, bread, cereal

  8. Water Nutrient that helps with digestion, makes up most of your blood, helps remove waste products, and helps regulate body temperature. Water makes up more than half of your body weight and a person can't survive for more than a few days without it. Drinking water, milk, soups, juices, fruits, vegetables

  9. Nutrients Project 6 Cartoons- 6 drawings with a description and a creative name for each. Include 1.The character’s special powers (what the nutrient does for the body).2.How the character gets the special powers (foods that provide the nutrient, need at least three) Menu- 6 sections (one for each nutrient). Should include 1.Explanation of the benefits of choosing foods from that section of the menu (What the nutrient does for your body?)2.Provide at least three food selections that would provide your body with that nutrient
