  3. Magnets • Sometimes we can’t see the magnets, but they are necessary for the object to work such as in a computer’s hard drive. • Hard disks in a computer record data on a thin magneticcoating.

  4. Transportation • Magnets are used in some trains. The best known is the maglev. • Maglev means “magnetic levitation,” which means the train is suspended, or lifted, above the rail by electro-magneticforce.

  5. Jewelry • Magnets can be used to make jewelry. • Some necklaces and bracelets are made from a series of linked magnets.

  6. Junkyards • Magnets can be used to separate magnetic metals (iron, steel, and nickel) from non-magnetic metals such as aluminum cans.
