IB at Lincoln • We have an open access program: any student who has met the course prerequisites may participate. There is no application. • Three Pathways to the IB Programme at Lincoln High School: • The Diploma – may enter college as soph • The Certificate – potential college credit • The Courses – no college credit
1. The IB Diploma • Work completed in the Junior/Senior Year • 6 Courses/exams in the 6 subject areas: • 3 Standard Level (SL) – 150 hours • 3 High Level (HL) – 240 hours • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) • Creative, Action and Service (CAS) • The Extended Essay
2. The IB Certificate • Students complete ALL course work (internal and external assessments) AND sit for the exam • IB Certificate is awarded by the IBO • Students may apply for college credit or advanced placement based on their IB Certificate
3. The IB Courses • Enroll in IB courses as Honors classes w/ Honors designation • IB courses are rigorous pre-collegiate courses that prepare students for college • No opportunity for college credit or advanced placement
The IB Diploma The 6 Subject Areas • Group 1: Home Language • Group 2: World Language • Group 3: Individuals and Society • Group 4: Science • Group 5: Mathematics • Group 6: The Arts (OR an IB Elective from Groups 2-4)
The IB Core: Theory of Knowledge (TOK) • Two year interdisciplinary seminar • Focuses on ways of knowing (emotion, reason, perception, language) • How do we know what we know? • Encourages appreciation of other cultural perspectives • Required TOK presentation and TOK paper externally assessed • Classroom support for CAS and the EE
The IB Core: The Extended Essay • 4000 word study in depth of a limited topic of the student’s choice • Support of Adviser , Librarian, Writing Center, TOK class • Externally assessed • Begins in Junior year, completed Senior year • Preparation for research and writing skills expected at college
The IB Core: CAS: Creative, Active Service • Fosters responsible citizens of the world who give to and learn from the community • TOK class offers support • Active engagement over two years • Portfolio of goal setting, reflective writing, evaluations by supervisor • Supervised by an adult who is not a member of the family

IB: The Results • IB students outperform their peers on state assessments • IB Diploma students have higher acceptance rates to college • IB students perform better in post-secondary education • IB has a positive impact on school culture
IB: The Results • Success rate for Candidates for the Diploma: 95% (vs 75% worldwide) • Percentage of students receiving IB scores of 4+: 83% • Ranked as one of top high schools in the country by Newsweek, US News and World Report and Washington Post.

Colleges and the IB Diploma • The average acceptance rate of IB students into university is 22% higher than the total population • The acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League institutions is between 3% and 13% higher compared to the total population Source: IBDP Graduate Destinations Survey 2011/12
IB: From the Colleges • MIT: “Send us students prepared a la IB. It is the “best” high school prep curriculum an American school can offer.” • Duke: “We know the quality of IB courses, and we think the IB Curriculum is terrific.”
Oregon University System IB Policy Certificate and Diploma students schools will earn subject credit on ALL SL and HL courses with a score of 5 and above. Diploma students who earn 30+ points on the Diploma may earn up to 45 credits and sophomore standing. *Every student should test in every course*
IB: Plan! • Complete PPS graduation requirements BEFORE entering IB programme • Sophs: Take Health, Gov’t /Econ • IB History of the Ams = US History credit • Must complete Alg 3-4 by end of soph. year • Keep the door open to IB at all times • Budget for exam fees: $855 (2013) • Most IB courses are TWO years long
IB: Exam Fees(2013) • Diploma: • Jr Year: $265/1 exam, $380/2 exams • Sr Year: $470/4 exams, $585/ 5 exams $850/6 exams • Certificate: • First Exam: $265 • Each add’l exam: $115
IB: Plan! • Exams at the end of the course • Juniors may sit for a maximum of 2 SL exams. Be careful when forecasting! • Only seniors may register for HL exams. • Exam dates and times are set by the IBO and cannot be changed. No “late” exams.
IB Forecasting • Pick one course from each IB Group: • 1. English (English HL only!) • 2. World Language • 3. Societies and Individuals • 4. Experimental science • 5. Mathematics • 6. The Arts (or any course from Group 2-4) • Pay attention to course prerequisites

IB Forecasting • Your course selections must include • 3 HL courses (not more than 4) • 3 SL courses (not less than 2) • ALL students must take TOK for BOTH years
IB Math: Plan! • Select your IB Math course carefully! • All IB Math courses are two year sequences. • IB Math SL 1-2 Math SL 3-4 only! • Pre Math Studies Math Studies SL only! • Math SL Math HL only!
Plan! • All IB courses must be taken at Lincoln • You must be enrolled in the IB course to sit for the exam • IB course grades are weighted on the Lincoln transcript • Two transcripts: Lincoln and IB
