Implementing the Rating – ADAPS Streamflow Records Computation using ADVMs and Index-Velocity Methods Office of Surface Water
Overview • Stage-area rating • Simple-linear index rating – equation • Compound-linear index rating • Multiple-linear index rating • Stage-discharge rating
Stage-Area Rating Discharge data descriptor must be chosen. No ratings (except for conversion of input rating) should be put under velocity
Stage-Area Rating Assure the stage-area rating (and any other rating used) starts on or after the day of the index-velocity processor
Simple-Linear Index Rating • Example • Vcomp = .9213 * Vi - .0136
Compound-Linear Index Rating • Same ADAPS procedure as the stage-area rating • Choose the VELO rating type • Value in – index velocity • Value out – computed velocity • Example • Velocity < 0 Vcomp = .89 * Vi • Velocity >0 Vcomp = .95 * Vi • Assure the rating covers the entire range of conditions that are expected at the site
Multiple-Linear Index Rating • These are equations in the form of • y = aX1 + b(X1*X2) + c • Y = computed velocity • a = slope coefficient for X1 • b = slope coefficient for X2 • c = y intercept • X1 = index velocity • X2 = stage
Multiple-Linear Index Rating • Vcomp= 0.462X1 + 0.033(X1X2) + 0.099
Stage-discharge rating • Processor Status: working • Created by: edebiak on: 10-08-2003 @ 16:41:57 EDT • Modified by: edebiak on: 10-09-2003 @ 11:05:18 EDT • SD - Starts on: 01-01-1800 • ED - Ends on: 12-31-2382 • RP - Default primary report type: Standard • GP - Unit values missing gap time: 60 (MINUTES) • DV - Compute DVs: MEAN • IS - Stage gage: DD #02 Gage height PUBLISHED (ft) • IV - Velocity gage: DD #07 Stream velocity linear rating • UL - Upper gage height limit: Not specified • LL - Lower gage height limit: Not specified • EQ - Use mean-velocity equation: No • XC - Equation X coefficient: Not specified • YC - Equation Y coefficient: Not specified • EC - Equation constant: Not specified • HB - Base for extreme events: Not used • HP - Interval for extreme events: Not used • SV - Site Visit Computation Flag (Y/N): Y To use a stage-discharge rating above a certain gage height, put the gage height in the UL field. The LL field is filled in to use a stage-discharge rating below a certain gage height. The stage-Q rating is put into the same discharge data descriptor as the velocity ratings. Shifts can be entered as well
Questions? • Complex ratings can be implemented outside of ADAPS using a script. Details for this can be found in appendix 6 of the T&M
