Simon Holmes CITB National Specialists (NS) • NS work with specialist sectors to support Training and Qualifications • We work with over 100 Federations and Associations to: • Support the development of National Occupational Standards from which qualifications evolve • Ensure training is focused on Industry need • Qualifications reflect the occupational activity • Identify and provide funding support for training delivery and qualification assessment
Qualifications For Insulation Activities • NVQ Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments (IBT) • Loft insulation • Draught-proofing • Cavity wall insulation
Qualifications For Insulation Activities • NVQ Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments (IBT) • External Wall Insulation (EWI) Routes: Fixer ,Finisher, and Fixer/Finisher • Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) fixer route only • Insulate framed sections existing studs rafters etc
CITB Training Options External Wall Insulation CITB have, in partnership with the Insulated Rendering Contractors Association (INCA) develop : • Specialist Apprenticeships Programme (SAPs) • Specialist Up Skilling Programmes (SUPs) • Full Apprenticeship Frameworks
CITB Training Options Internal Wall Insulation National Specialists worked with the National Insulation Association (NIA) to develop • Specialist Up Skilling Programmes (SUPs)
SAPs and SUPS SAPs • New entrant or novice • 2 year programme of off the job and on the job training • Full programme of occupational activity and general construction awareness • Must achieve Level 2 VQ achievement SUPs • Experience crafts person with transferable occupational skill • Max 1 year duration with min 5 days and max 15 days off the job training • Must achieve level 2 VQ • Both Grant funded by CITB for in-scope employers
Manufacturers Training Courses • Many EWI & IWI Systems Manufacturers have “cross mapped” their training programmes to the NOS and QCF qualifications • What does this mean? • Completion of Manufacturer Courses will underpin and support the On Site Assessment of the NVQ. • What doesn't this mean? • Attendance on a manufacturers course will not in itself deliver the qualification • You will be accredited to install any type of EWI or IWI System only the specific product to which the training related • They are aligned courses under the PAS 2030
Training & NVQ Assessment Pathways Pathways 1.Experienced Installers 2. Manufacturer Training 3. Specialist Up Skilling Programmes (SUPs) These are one year programmes with X No Off the Job Training Days + NVQ 2 outcome. Funding Support £1000 for CS+ & NVQ 2 from DECC/CITB As above + possible extra funding for off the Job training needed CITB SUP Grants of:- • £2625 for courses lasting up to 13 days of OTJ Training • £3525 for courses lasting 14 days or more of OTJ Training
DECC CITB- ConstructionSkills Solid Wall Insulation • Provided £2.5 Million of Funding Support Sept 2012 to 31st Oct 2013 • £200 to cover the cost of the Customer Care training and Understanding the Green Deal requirements under PAS 2030 • £800 to cover the cost of assessment to achieve the Level 2 NVQ/SVQ (QCF) in Insulation & Building Treatments. • Applications running at 1695 installers across 241 Employers (In & Out of Scope to CITB) (some have dropped out due to the slow start to the Green Deal initiative but a high level increase is expected in the coming months) • Additional funding for 2013/14 not currently known
CITB Training Development Energy Efficiency and Retrofit for Traditional Buildings • Hard to treat traditional buildings • Supervisors of retrofit on traditional buildings • Working with the Heritage bodies across the UK • A new VQ qualification will be developed • Industry experts drawing up the specification • Will be delivered via SUP format • Pilots already being requested and funded in Wales, Cumbria
