HND Frameworks - history • SQA has a lengthy history of successfully developing and offering HND qualifications • HNDs are well respected in Scotland • Recognised as giving candidates skills and knowledge to allow them to progress into employment and/or go onto Higher Education • HND subject content reflects the appropriate sector – Business, Administration & IT and Financial Services

HND Frameworks – role of Qualifications Development Team • Maintenance - regular updating, as required • Full review – agreed as part of operational plans • Full review – involves consultation with centres, candidates, employers, Universities, Professional Bodies etc. • Full review for suite of HND Business related subjects 2010. Resulted in minor content change and some design change – clarity in Unit specifications

HND Frameworks - Review • Full review of HND Business related frameworks addressed the need to: • ensure the content of all Units was current, fit for purpose and reflected industry needs • help ease any burden of over assessment • remove/reduce prescriptive assessment conditions if they are not required • improve the statement of standards in the Unit specification (to give greater clarity) • Address SQA policy issues

HND Frameworks - Review • The full review resulted in the introduction of new HND frameworks in Scotland 2010 • Learning from this process SQA reviewed the HND frameworks offered in China • New/revised Units introduced into HND frameworks in China 2012 (already used in Scotland) • Full review of the validity and relevance of each grouping of Units in HND frameworks

  6. New HND Frameworks 7 new HND Frameworks introduced August 2012: • Administration and Information Technology • Business • Business with Accounting • Business with Human Resource Management • Business with Information Technology • Business with Marketing • Financial Services

  7. New HND frameworks • Some new Unit specifications (including Graded Units) • New Assessment Exemplars (for new Units) • New Course Tutor Guide – for each HND • New HND frameworks on website. Information for current frameworks on website until the finish date

  8. New HND frameworks • Assessment Exemplars must remain secure • Additional information on website - primarily for centres • Centres must check website regularly – to keep up to date with changes, new guidance etc. • After August 2013 material from ‘old’ Units/frameworks can be used for learning and practice assessment
