Government as a Facilitating Partner Three Sources of Funding for Nursing Education in Texas: • Traditional formula funding through Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for 62 nursing education programs • Dramatic Growth Funds allocated for institutions with high enrollment increases intended to support those enrollments prior to formula funding pass-through • Tobacco Settlement Funds for Nursing Innovation Grants and Faculty Overload
New Funding for Nursing in Texas • At it’s July 2004 meeting the THECB approved Legislative recommendations for new special item funding for nursing education to include: • $23.5 million Dramatic Growth Funds for LVN and RN programs at community colleges, universities and HRIs • $20 million Nursing Success Supplement based on the # of RN grads
