  3. Browser An internet browser is the program used to access the internet and view web pages on a computer.

  4. CPU A CPU or Central Processing Unit Is the “brains” of the computer.

  5. Desktop The Desktop is the main computer screen that shows icons that stand for files and folders.

  7. Flash Drive A small portable storage device that plugs into a computer USB port to transfer information from one computer to another.

  8. Google A widely used search engine to find web pages with information about a particular subject.

  9. Hard Drive Computer hardware inside a computer’s CPU that holds information on a magnetic disk.

  10. Icon An Icon is a small picture representing a program, file or object saved on the hard drive.

  11. JPEG JPEG is a standard format for compressing and storing pictures on the hard drive. JPEG is an abbreviation for `Joint Photographic Experts Group'

  12. Keyboard The keyboard is used to type letters, numbers and symbols as well as a variety of functions.

  13. Laptop A laptop computer is a smaller, lighter, portable version of a desktop computer, that can be used almost anywhere.

  14. Monitor/Mouse A monitor is the display screen for a computer. A mouse is a hand-operated device that controls the position of the cursor on the computer screen as you move it.

  15. Network A computer network is several computers linked together to communicate and share information.

  16. Online Being online means having an open line of communication by being connected to a computer or the internet.

  17. Printer A printer is connected to a computer and able to receive and print text or pictures on paper.

  19. Restart/Reboot To have the computer shut down and start up again.

  20. Scroll Bar A scroll bar is a long thin box along one edge of a window, which you click on to move text up and down or across the window.

  22. USB Universal Serial Bus is a means of connecting a device to a computer so that they can communicate and exchange data.

  23. Virus A virus is a man-made program that can cause harm to computer files and programs.

  24. Website A website is a collection of pages containing specific information on a particular topic that was searched for.

  25. XP Windows XP is an operating system, which is software that communicates with the hardware and allows other programs to run.

  26. You Tube You Tube is a video sharing website where people can upload their videos and view other people’s videos.

  27. Zip file A Zip file is a computer file containing data that has been compressed to reduce the size of the file.
