Suggestions for Lesson 1: Sharing your expectations: • Introduce yourself (practise!) – name on board • Celebrate the subject! Talk about achievement and working together • Seating plan – on Day 1? • Exercise books – routine for giving out / collecting? • Presentation – set high standards for reference • Targets – refer to department policy • Talk about topic to be studied • Read a passage or show picture - pupils write, including a range of punctuation, speech, vocabulary for you to gauge competence.
Writing springboards for English: • A door: show images; detailed description; apprehension about meeting, followed by dialogue with person inside • A phone call: possibly the best / worst I would ever make /take: background, anticipation, dialogue • Arctic rescue: situation, dialogue with self or rescuer • Explain yourself: you have been wrongly accused of something in school - describe the circumstances and script the dialogue with a teacher.
