Economics Puerto Rico has one of the most dynamic economies in the Caribbean region. The main government expenditures are on health, education and welfare. By some economists Puerto Rico's economy is considered somewhat fictitious
Politics Internal self-governing, unincorporated territory of the United States. A local governor is elected every four years through universal suffrage. An elected resident commissioner represents the island in the U.S. Congress but has no vote . Luis Munoz Marin, became the first elected governor in 1948.
Environment Puerto Rico is situated in the Caribbean slightly east of the Dominican Republic. Puerto Rico experiences rain during the entire year, which means you will find the island to be lush, and full of small lakes and rivers. The weather can only be described as comfortable, with average highs of 82F. From an historic and cultural aspect, Old San Juan is a fantastic place to visit. The area has been nicely restored and has a tranquil, historic charm to it.

When the Spanish forced the Tainos into slavery, virtually the entire indigenous population was decimated, except for a few Amerindians who escaped into the remote mountains.

Caridad de la Luz a.k.a. "La Bruja" is a poetess, actress and activist. Caridad De La Luz Luz, whose parents moved to New York City from Puerto Rico, was born and raised in the South Bronx. There she also received her primary and secondary education. As a child she was always surrounded by the sounds of salsa music since she lived in a section which is also known as "El Condado de la Salsa" (Salsa County). Luz would often prepare shows for her family, imitating her favorite salsa singer Celia Cruz. She also enjoyed writing, especially poetry. She graduated with honors from Murry Bergtraum High School. New York City portal The Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building are easily recognized symbols of New York City to the world. The Bronx is one of the five boroughs of New York City in the United States. Salsa music is a diverse and predominantly Caribbean and Latin genre that is popular across Latin America and among Latinos abroad.
