Sports Research from the ESRI • Golf is the second most popular sport played by 12% of adults • Benefits of regular sport in term so health and social contact • People who play sport are, better educated, younger, more like to be male and • are better off • 76% of sport played by Over 18s is individual sport not team • Individual sports are sports for life – significant drop in team sports after age 20 • After age 20 women are just as likely as men to start a new sport and no more • likely to drop a sport they already play. • Individual sport is more expensive than team sport • Primary barriers to taking up a sport – Physical reason, Time, Cost, Disadvantaged
