  2. Questionnaire could be found on Internet and was open August-September 2006. Last entry was October 2nd. • 26 members submitted a response to the questionnaire. That were 42 % of the members • Of those who responded: • 7 were personal members, 19 were institutional members • 7 joined euroCRIS between 1996-2001, 19 since then. Note: 2002 euroCRIS changed from a more informal to a legal organization with statutes and a membership fee. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  6. Do you consider your existing CRIS system to be CERIF- compliant? • yes 15 • no 10 If not, do you have plans to have a CERIF- compliant system in the (near) future? • yes 7 • no 6 euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  7. What are your interests with respect to CRIS? (1 = weakest, 7 = strongest) Average • Evaluation tools and procedures 5.4 • OA and CRISs 5.3 • Searching across CRISs 5.2 • Management systems 5.2 • CRIS supporting the research workflow 5.1 • Standards such as CERIF 5.0 • others 5.0 • Ontologies and Semantic web 4.4 euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  8. What is lacking most in the CRIS- World? (1 = weakest, 7 = strongest) Average • Evaluation tools and procedures 5.0 • Connecting OA and CRISs 4.9 • CRIS supporting the research workflow 4.9 • Ontologies and Semantic web 4.6 • Searching across CRISs 4.7 • Standards such as CERIF 4.1 • Others 5.6 euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  9. What are your main plans for 2007? • Servicing more customers with a CERIF compliant CRIS System • I would like to make our CRIS CERIF - compliant but this is not a University priority. • More realistically I would like to push for a Scottish-wide CERIF/CRIS project linked to OA repository/ies along the Dutch lines (METIS /DARE/ HARVEX) • developing and taking into use a CERIF compliant system for research group information management. • Guide further professional development of the euroCRIS organisation on the basis of decisions to be taken by the Board and members by the end of 2006. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  10. Support (new) Task Groups • Extension of the website and sharepoint sites • Laying the foundation for a national system for managing research information in Sweden. • Establish exchange formats between our local CRIS and CRISs of Information centres in Germany • Integrating National CRIS-system with National repository (NARCIS and DARE-net) • Experiments with automating indexing tools • Introducing 1 CRIS-system for the 17 institutes of the Royal Academy of sciences and arts euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  11. We intend to make the system publicly available. For that purpose we have to improve the prototype we are running now with additional developemnts. There is still some work to be carried on as far as harmonisation and standardisation of data are concerned. • connecting OA and data exchange between Russian and EU CRISs • concept development of complex online environment for researchers and its practical implementation • For JISC, to develop a "Programme Information Management System", I hope will be an open tender so that CERIF experts can bid. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  12. For UK HE, to include CERIF as a standard mentioned in calls for proposals, to encourage its use within UK universities • For Europe, to organise a workshop in the 'Knowledge Exchange' (UK, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands) including a session on exchanging research information. • The CRIS system of our university will be renewed during 2007, because the owner of the system has changed. We hope, that the new owner has enough resources to develop the system. We also hope, that the we are able to find the most useful focus to the new system. It seems, that the expectations towards cris-systems vary and are sometimes huge and unrealistic. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  13. At the same time we are gathering the elements of the quality assurance system of the University. My opinion is, that the new system should serve as part of the quality assurance of the university. How - that remains to be seen. • Roll out a full CERIF compliant Reseach Information Clearinghouse • Attendance into the valuable events of CRIS. • Publishing two new or rebuild CRIS-Systems, one on Research Projects, the other on Research Institutions • To establish an institutional repository for scientific publications (of research funded by our institution, the SNF): Either as our own Server, or coordinated with all the other important research institutions in Switzerland. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  14. Establishing an international (world-wide) project and expertise database system for IFCU-member universities (IFCU = International Federation of Catholic Universities) • Build a European CERIF-based CRIS landscape. • Enforce the integartion of research information across information providers euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  15. Would you like to be involved in EU- projects via euroCRIS? yes 12 perhaps 10 No, I am not interested in EU projects 3 No, I get involved in EU projects in other ways 1 euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  16. In which of the following areas of euroCRIS activity would you be interested in working? • Best practice (how to implement a CRIS) 16 • Projects (brokering participation in new projects, promoting euroCRIS to existing projects) 15 • Events (conferences, seminars) 14 • CERIF (developing the standard) 12 • Communication (newsflash, website) 8 • Marketing (branding, brochures and materials, attracting sponsorship and membership) 6 • Others 3 euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  17. Why you are a member of euroCRIS? • because it is a part of the contract for running the Danish National Research System • CERIF as a standard is important (relatively, because the brand CERIF is hardly well recognized) and is part of the business services of uniCRIS. • Because euroCRIS is a community of wonderfull people who are struggling with similar problems as my organisation, so I can get at the meetings plenty of good ideas and solutions. • Because I strongly believe in the power of database and internet technology to help in research workflow from the start to end ... for researchers, managers and funders. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  18. Having a database standard and a powerful cross-country voice to promote this is a very important step. • Scotland is ideally placed to pick up this opportunity both due to its small size and the current competitive climate. The latter has been driven largely by the proximity to England & Wales where funding levels are increasing due to the ability to charge variable fees. This is driving Scottish HEIs into collaborative partnerships in order to contine to compete ... having a standard CRIS for all Scottish HEIs has obvious advantages; in particular for the Executive Managers and Funders. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  19. Because euroCRIS is an interesting and relevant forum for professionals within the main field of public research management. Being a member allows us to both follow and influence this field and its many sub-fields. Also, we are able to follw and influence the CERIF-standard. • Learning about standards, availabe solutions and good practices (as a relatively worker new in the field of research management), utilizing experience and knowledge of those "been there, done that". • Get information about current and state-of-the-art activities in the field. • To have international contacts and information about developments if CRISs euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  20. I am a member of euroCRIS because I believe in its mission. An organisation like euroCRIS is desparately needed to make a wide variety of stakeholders (researchers, research managers, funding organisations, businesses,...) aware of the benefits and potencies of CRIS, to assist them in shaping their CRIS and meet their needs and to create a CRIS community • For the contacts and the know how within the network • Because I have been working in research information for long time and I participated in the EC projects related to this area: ERGO, CERIF, CORDIS. • We think of euroCRIS as a organization to lead and promote the development of standards and good practices from a practical and effective point of view. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  21. A forum to start innitiatives with all the agents with interest in research information, including, of course, companies, mainly sme's. • I paid my euroCRIS membership fee for 5 years at once :-) • Because it has potential to join up a number of systems across the institution. It is not yet achieving this enough. • Direct interrest in the devellopment and implementation of CERIF • for it's network of domain specialist on implementations and business analysis level • Being responsible for a national CRIS, I am interested in the development of CRIS standard and in its applications. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  22. During 2003-2004 we were testing the updated version of the cris-system of our university. It was useful to get information of the cris-concept from other universities and countries. It was my opinion then, that the main problems in our system had been caused by the fact the system was built as a technical register from which reports and statistics for managerial purpose would be printed. It was supposed that the researcher would be motivated by this so much, that he or she would gladly describe a publication in every bibliographic detail. • Because they are the best in Research Systems and I would like to contribute my expertise in order to spread them in my part of the world. • We are still a member of euroCRIS, because the merging between the OA-world and the euroCRIS-endevours is finally starting to take place euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  23. Get into contact with other CRIS-uses and builders; • nice meetings around the world • because W.Adamczak forced me to do so ;-) 1. Forum for the exchange of information 2. Platform to prepare uniform solutions on a European scale 3. Conferences • To support the shaping of a European Research Landscape and hence innovation activities in Europe. • Originally because of our participation in ERGO. • Now, because it is a good platform for meeting people and making (internatinal) contacts between people and organizations dealing with similar problems. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  24. To support the shaping of a European Research Landscape and hence innovation activities in Europe. • Originally because of our participation in ERGO. • Now, because it is a good platform for meeting people and making (internatinal) contacts between people and organizations dealing with similar problems. euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel

  25. In short three conclusions: • EU_projects are of outstanding interest. We have to find ways to harness this enthusiasm • Most enthusiasm for getting involved in task groups. This does not necessarily equate to activity within task groups • Besides CERIF and Best practice we have to focus acitivities to what can be done by CRISs for research management and evaluation!!! euroCRIS membership survey Research Liaison Office Copenhagen, November 10, 2006 University of Kassel
