  4. OPENING STATEMENT FLITE was an excellent class that without any arguments I can say it gave me a real perspective about what leadership means and its practical use in our daily lives. Working with other Leadership students helped me understand the different ways that leadership can be interpreted. Overall, the relational skills that I am taking from HDF 190 are qualities that I could have never obtain from a different class.

  5. SECTION 1 SELF LEADERSHIP (Student will demonstrate the ability to lead a project from start to finish (follow-through)) NRS 492 is a class in which a group students come together in small groups and create a lesson plan for a range of elementary school kids from 4th and 5th grade. The SMILE Program is design to provide a unique opportunity to unrepresented kids to have a view and understanding of science. Through the SMILE Program this kids attend a series of field trips and do a number of activities that enable them to acquired knowledge and develop relational skills via interactions with kids from all over the state. One of the most important event is the Environmental Outdoors Science Adventure which is a weekend at Alton Jones learning about the environment and different themes are designed every year. As part of this class, my fellow group members and I came up with a whole well-constructed lesson plan that include the content and a series of activities to assess the purpose of the lesson. We develop this project in about 5 weeks and improvements were made as we approach the event. The event came to realization and we successfully deliver our lesson plan accordingly.

  6. SECTION 2 Leadership Theory and Models (Student will show knowledge of the “Servant Leadership” theory of leadership by Greenleaf) For many years even in actuality, was and is believe that leadership is all about the person on the top of the pyramid to command the ones below him. Robert Greenleaf, was the originator of a new way to look a leadership. Servant Leadership, this type of leadership according to Greenleaf begins with a natural feeling to serve others and make other grow, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous and they are more likely to become servants as well as a result of your service. As a servant leader you don’t care for what you will be given in return rather the improvement of the individual being serve. Through hard analytical hard work, Greenleaf consider certain characteristics that make up a servant leader. There are ten characteristics: listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of people, and building community. I can identify myself as a healer. My servant leadership traits are supported by my Gallup Character strength of Restorative and deliberative. These strength combine together to make me a better server and have a clearer understanding of the person’s area to be heal

  7. SECTION 3 Inclusive Leadership / Diversity and its application to leadership (Student will create a personal code of inclusive leadership) One occasion that I feel I embraced a personal code of leadership was during the TIDES students visit though SNIC. These students come from the rough side of the city of providence and are place in the TIDE program to try to push them towards the right track to success and healthy, safe life. As part of the Nonviolence training the come and visit the University of Rhode Island campus. I guided them through campus and encourage them to change their lives by making good decisions and coming to college as a door to find goodness and peace. They were offered of my advised and guaranteed help in any academics, making them feel cared for.

  8. SECTION 4 Critical Thinking (Student will show knowledge of at least five decision making methods) Decision making can be regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities. Good decision making is an essential skill to become an effective leader and for a successful career. One method of decision making is by command, decisions are with no involvement. Secondly, consult, which invites the input of others. Thirdly, vote which discuss options and the vote is made upon those options. Another form of decision making is through consensus, which the options are discuss and everyone then agrees to one choice .Lastly, another method to decision making is baiting, which is a technique that reduces discussions around decisions.

  9. SECTION 5 (Interpersonal and Organizational Concepts and Skills ) (Student will demonstrate knowledge of active listening techniques) Listening is the process of receiving, constructing from, and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal messages. It involves 4 stages that are vital for good communication and without them the process is not consider listening. Effective listening involves sensing, understanding, evaluating and responding. Better listening is linked with having good personal relationships as well as academic performance. Listening carefully will help you remember and retain more information. There are different styles that can be adjusted to our character and the way we like to receive certain information.
