  1. Us vs Them (Morrissey vs Nugent) • Rocks don’t care what you do to them • Trees lack sentience • Animals experience pleasure and pain • Clearly, we have some duties to animals that we don’t have to rocks and trees • All agree, animal abuse is wrong • When is animal use wrong?

  2. Morrissey • If you love animals, obviously it doesn’t make sense to hurt them. There was a documentary on British Television. It was about the usual abattoir/slaughter situation, and it horrified me. So that was the turning point for me. And I always looked at animals and thought they were very much like children and they looked to us always to help them and save them and protect them. Then I could see all these animals being led and assuming they were being led to safety and being organized by human beings—and then, of course, being butchered—very simple. • Read more: http://www.peta2.com/heroes/morrissey/#ixzz2NYRBYuj2

  3. Ted Nugent • Animals have rights...to garlic, butter, and cooking on both sides." – • My name is Ted Nugent and because of Pam Anderson ... and because of Paul McCartney, all the members of PETA, whenever I hear the word animal or rights in the same paragraph, I’m killing an extra hundred of something this year. I have unlimited deer tags in Michigan and Texas, and I don’t even need to kill them really, but I’m going to."

  4. Animal use • Clothing • Food/Food Producers • Sports and entertainment • Education • Product /Drug testing • Experimentation • Companionship • Labor • Decoration • Furniture • Jewelry • Tools/Weapons • Living Weapons • Fuel • Glue

  5. Colin’s creatures • Vampires who feed on human blood and orange juice. • Raise humans as food source, each is good only for three servings. • A few are juicetarians, calling for the liberation of all humans. • They are a pretty selfish, blinkered and cruel lot. • Humans and shumans: • Shumans are an intelligent, sensitive, social, and civilized non-human species; hairless with pointy ears- we conquered them and use them for food, experimentation, and blood sports. • Speciesism

  6. Speciesism and Intelligenceism • Cruelty is cruelty is cruelty and a mere difference of species doesn’t make it right. • Does our actual treatment of animals amount to an unjustifiable form of speciesism? • Our greater intelligence does not justify the use of less intelligent creatures for food or experimentation (intelligenceism ). • Would you do to intellectually comparable animals what we commonly do to animals?

  7. If it is wrong, why is it so common? • An imbalance of power creates opportunities for injustice. • For example: child labor and slavery were once common. • The point isn’t about love, it is about something closer to respect. It is about independence, freedom, due consideration, equality, rights….it is about the opportunity, the right to live the life that nature has given you without interference from outsiders.
