1967 was the 100th anniversary of Confederation and Canada’s 100th birthday. • A huge celebration was planned: a world fair to be located in Montreal, Quebec.
Quebeckers were very proud to be chosen to host Canada’s 100th birthday.
There was no room in Montreal to build Expo, so debris from the excavation of Montreal’s new subway was used to build new islands in the St. Lawrence River.
Everyone was very excited about Expo ’67. • This is a 60’s style countdown “clock”.
Expo ’67’s theme was “The Future”, so many pavilions were futuristic.
Although this was a Canadian birthday celebration, countries from all over the world participated. • They issued stamps and built pavilions
