Strong statements in a philosophy“What is your philosophy about what are the characteristics teachers need for today’s classroom?” • Teachers develop their own individual styles. However, I believe effective teachers are willing to adjust their own natural style to meet the needs of students. Teachers need to be knowledgeable about their subject area and skilled in engaging students. Teachers should understand and include cultural perspectives. They need to treat students with dignity and respect. The focus in every classroom needs to be on developing higher level thinking skills and collaborative problem solving. Teachers need to design lessons that have understandable learning outcomes and communicate expectations clearly for students. In times where the technological age is advancing quickly, teachers need to develop the kinds of skills which students need to learn to be successful in life. Teachers need to work to instill a love for life-long learning. These are the characteristics teachers need for today’s classroom.
