What is HB5? • Approved by the State Board of Education (SBOE) and adopted by the Texas Legislature in January, 2014, HB5 provides the new graduation requirements beginning with incoming 9th-graders in the 2014-2015 school year.
YISD and HB5 • YISD students will continue a 4 x 4 curriculum (4 CRS. each of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies) with additional requirements as defined by both the district and the state. • YISD expects all students to complete high school as a Distinguished Level of Achievement graduate with a minimum of 1 Endorsement. • Let’s look at the overview!

WHY does YISD require the Distinguished Level of Achievement for Graduation? • Distinguished Level of Achievement is a requirement for “Top 10 Percent” automatic college admissions. • DLA ensures graduation with at least one endorsement (many YISD students have the potential to graduate with multiple endorsements AND performance acknowledgements!). • DLA graduates who graduate with national or international certifications may have company-assisted or company-underwritten college tuition! • DLA graduates have a more marketable skill set beginning with their high school graduation!
