  1. Cut Pyramids – What Are They?

  2. This type of drawing is asked to be drawn as part of a cut, prism, pyramid, cylinder or cone. • It shows the actual shape of a sloping surface. • They can be quite confusing but are not as hard to produce as they look.

  3. As there are other slides and presentations depicting how to draw cut prisms, pyramids, cylinders and cones we are not going to show you how to do these things in this slideshow. • Instead we will focus on producing the true shapes.

  4. 1 3 2 1 /4 2 /3 3 /4 1 /2 2 1 2 4 3 4

  5. 1 3 2 1 /4 2 /3 3 /4 1 /2 Drawing the True Shape of Cut To find the True Shape, project the cut points away from the Front Elevation at right angles to the cut. 2 1 2 Draw a datum line on the True Shape parallel to the cut line of the Front Elevation and at right angles to the lines just projected. Use the centre line of the plan as a datum line. 4 3 4 Measure the vertical distances from the datum to each of the cut points on the plan. Transfer each of these sizes on to the True Shape. Join each of the points found to produce the True Shape. Complete the view by darkening the outlines.
