  3. IACUC Review of IACUC Records 1. Per Handbook 1200.07, item 8.f.1(b): "As part of the Program review, the IACUC must randomly review IACUC records representing at least 5 percent of the total active projects (a minimum of five). The purpose of the review is to determine if appropriate documentation of initial review, approval letter(s), annual and triennial approvals, modifications, and investigator correspondence are present." 2. ORD, through the CVMO's office, has determined that the IACUC records audits performed by station RCOs meet this requirement. 3. The IACUC could receive either a written or verbal report regularly from the RCO to meet the requirement in 8.f.1(b).

National Food/Bedding Contracts Purpose- to allow VA animal research programs to buy feed and bedding from established and proven vendors as sole source purchases Two items very close to approval: 1. ClassJustification and Approval for Use of Other than Full and Open Competition ("Class J&A") for a number of feed and bedding vendors 2. Separate J&A for Harlan feed and bedding products

Additional Information on J&As • Thanks to Mike Walsh, AO for R&D at Nashville for conducting extensive VA market and vendor research. • Thanks to Dr. Terri Clark for allowing VA to utilize information from the NIH lab animal feed and bedding evaluation program, and Dennis Barnard (lab animal nutritionist) and Robin Lubbert (entomologist) for sharing vendor site visit reports with VA. • Thanks to the VA Strategic Acquisition Contracting group for excellent support throughout the process. • Instructions on how to use the J&As will be forthcoming.
