  1. Tuesday, January 22 Choose your seats for the week – if there is a problem I will choose for you, so be sure to pick WISELY. Copy down your assignments – get your assignment book signatures ready to show me. Make your lunch count and make it legibly. Get your Monday folders signed!

  2. RW (T): We will design a timeline of the colossus of Rhodes and compare it to the statue of liberty. • Opening: How long is 72 feet? • WorkPeriod: Read “The Colossus of Rhodes”; as you read, track thoughts, questions, connections, etc. • After reading, ON POSTER PAPER, create a timeline, showing: • 1) FIVE important events in the history of The Colossus • 2) Descriptions for each event • 3) Any important vocabulary that needs to be incorporated • 4) Each event illustrated • Finished? Read chapters 3, 4 of Numbers, preparing for this week’s book club on Friday. • Closing: Agree with the ending? Discuss.

  3. Writers (T): We will investigate sources for effective and relatable information. • Opening: How do you research? • Notes in Sourcebook journals • Questions? Comments? • Work Period: Apply information from video as we begin researching – today from various sources, tomorrow library, and tomorrow from both. • Closing: What have we found? How has our research began?

  4. Math (T): We will effectively analyze and solve proportions. • Opening: pg 132, example 1, 2, 3 – • work together on white boards • WorkPeriod: pg 134, #1-3, 5-9, 15-21 odd, • 22, 29, 30, 32-35 • Solve independently and on notebook paper • Grade together when finished • Closing: Status check – where are we on proportions?

SS (T): We will compare today’s Russia to the Russia of the past. • Opening: Differences between America and Russia from the Viewpoint of a "Local" • Work Period: Read Chapter 33, Section 3, “Russia Today” in your SS book. • AS you read, answer the “reading checks” • AFTER reading, complete the “Section 3 Assessment” #1-4, including the page numbers on which you found the answers • Finished? Continue working on Numberch. ¾, poster, math, sp/vocab or other work you need to complete; then read silently • Closing: Grade (FA) and discuss

  6. Wednesday, January 23 Same seats as yesterday. Copy down your assignments. Get your Monday folders and your C/E/R card signatures ready to be checked. Make your lunch count and make it legibly. Work on and study for your spelling test Friday. Anything to be passed out today?

RW (W): We will compare and contrast “brazen giants.” • Opening: How do you think schools determine their mascots? • School Mascot • If you were to choose a mascot for our country, what would it be? Why? • WorkPeriod: Read, “The New Colossus” pg 270 • As you read – TRACK YOUR THINKING, CONNECTIONS, QUESTIONS • After reading: • Define the following vocab: brazen, astride, imprisoned, exiles, air-bridged, pomp, yearning, wretched, refuse*, tempest-tost • Create a double-bubble map comparing/contrasting the ‘brazen giant’ with the ‘mighty woman” • Answer questions 1 & 3, including text evidence with your answers • Finished? Posters from yesterday, Numbers ch. 3 & 4, sp/vocab Friday • Closing: Which statue do you find a more effective mascot?

  8. wW (W): We will actively research and collect data for our C/E/Rs • Opening: Where are you in your research? Status check. • WorkPeriod: Library – 10:00-10:30 – what will be your goal? • After library: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMHQJdtWJlU; continue researching • Closing: Status check

  9. math (W): We will calculate the slope of a line. • Opening: Slope of a Line • Work the problems with the website! • Work Period: 4.5, pg 138, #, 1-3, 20-23, independently; go over and discuss • Math from yesterday (will be graded in a moment), Numbers 3 & 4, posters from yesterday, research • Closing: Ticket out – What IS slope?

SS (W):Are the Caucasus considered part of Russia? • Opening: The Caucasus: Mountains Full of Languages • WorkPeriod: 1) read ch. 33, section 4, “The Caucasus”; 2) answer the Section 4 assessment, #1-3; 3) Upon reading, complete “Chapter 33, chapter Review, page 881, #1-14, 18 • Math from yesterday (will be graded in a moment), Numbers 3 & 4, posters from yesterday, research • Closing: Grade - FA

  12. RW (R): We will discover the how, when, and why of Mt. rushmore • Opening: Draw a picture of Mt. Rushmore … (this should be interesting) • WorkPeriod: Read “Why Does Mt. Rushmore Exist” • As you read – • 5 words you don’t know – (use context clues and write the inferred meaning) • 5 questions you ask • 5 connections you make • 5 facts you find interesting • Finished? Posters, SS, Thank you, #Stars, Sp/vocab, Read, research Closing: Share out “Why not just paint a mustache on everything?!”

  17. stations (Fri): We will work cooperatively to design and evaluate, using the concepts we have learned this week. • Station 1: Computer/Techno: Study Island, AR tests, etc • Station 2: Science: • Station 3: Readers: Number the StarsChapters 3 & 4 comprehension questions/discussion – turn in to the tray when done • Finished? Read silently and independently. • Need to go to the library, you may go, please let me know.

  18. Stations (Fri): We will work cooperatively to design and evaluate, using the concepts we have learned this week. • Station 1: Computer/Techno: Study Island, AR tests, etc • Station 2: Science: Following the Scientific Method step-by-step in your science journals, create a Lego model of a cell organism of your choice form chapter 5. EACH PART must be labeled and represented. *I will be grading your written sci. method as an SA! • Station 3: Readers: Number the Stars Chapter 3 & 4 comprehension questions/discussion – turn in to the tray when done • Finished? Read silently and independently. • Need to go to the library, you may go, please let me know.
