Precipitation Type Rain --- --- liquid precipitation Snow ---- frozen precipitation Sleet --- frozen precipitation that falls through warm layer and starts to melt Freezing rain --- rain that goes through cold layer and starts to freeze Hail --- frozen precipitation that forms in thunderstorms
