5. FCC Kick-Off 2014 Future Circular Collider (FCC) Study R-D Heuer, CERN

6. Why • Push the energy frontier beyond LHC • High Priority item within the European Strategy for Particle Physics • Timely • lead times for R&D very long • LHC physics program for ~20 years • Need for a project plan when LHC results indicate direction to go

7. What • Technical/Conceptual Design Reports for linear e+e- Colliders exist: ILC/CLIC • Japan interested in housing ILC • Europe and CERN: participation in both • endeavours will be continued • Need to go beyond present energy frontier  circular high energy collider

8. How • Exploitation of all options for such a project (hh – ee– ep) within one study • Global Collaboration for the Study of Future Circular Colliders • (similar to the CLIC collaboration) • Hosted by CERN

9. Scope The main emphasis of the conceptual design study shall be the long-term goal of a hadron collider with a centre-of-mass energy of the order of 100 TeVin a new tunnel of 80-100 km circumference for the purposes of studying physics at the highest energies. The conceptual design study shall also include a lepton collider and its detectors, as a potential intermediate step towards realization of the hadron facility. Potential synergies with linear collider detector designs should be considered. Options for e-p scenarios and their impact on the infrastructure shall be examined at conceptual level. The study shall include cost and energy optimisation, industrialisation aspects and provide implementation scenarios, including schedule and cost profiles.

Procedures for CLICdp speakers (2) • Making your draft slides available • Make your slides available 2 days before the talk. • Use the CLICdp rehearsal category in indico https://indico.cern.ch/category/4772/ • Rehearsals • CLICdp rehearsals will normally only be organised for major events (LCWS, EPS-HEP, etc.). • If you wish, feel free to organise a rehearsal session yourself • Labeling of plots and results • Use CLICdp style, see https://svnweb.cern.ch/trac/clicdet/browser/trunk/doc/CLICStyle • Label your figures with “CLIC” or “CLICdp”. 14. Procedures for CLICdp speakers (3) Proposal to follow the recommendations below. Will allow to gain further experience for CLICdp and refine the rules later • Which results and plots can be shown ? • In case of CALICE/FCAL/etc. studies => corresponding CALICE/FCAL/etc. rules apply • In case of CLICdp physics benchmark results • Normally only showresults that are already included in approved CLICdp-notes or publicly published elsewhere (e.g. in European or Snowmass strategy reports). • Exceptions to the above need to be shown in an analysis meeting, and permission explicitly asked for. • In case of CLICdp R&D results • Normally only show results that are already included in approved CLICdp-notes. • Exceptions to the above need to be shown in a CLICdp working group meeting, and permission explicitly asked for. • In case of results of detector optimisation studies • Only show plots which have previously been discussed in a relevant working group. • Generously put labels “Preliminary”and “Work in progress”on all plots that are not final.
