Overview How to prepare for your oral presentation
Steps • Determine purpose & audience • What’s the purpose of the OPR? • How could determining purpose & audience help you shape your presentation? • Gather Information • Organize information, keeping the following in mind: • Audiences remember intros and closings
Steps Come up with a design conception (avoid templates) Find relevant images THEN, you can start the powerpoint/prezi
Content WHAT are you going to say?
What to include • Overview of presentation • Context of client deliverable project • Who’s your client? What’s their mission? What deliverable did they want you to create? What did they not like about their current deliverable (if applicable)? • Present the research you did and how this informed your deliverable. • Describe how your deliverable will meet the client’s needs • Outline your progress—What have you done? What do you still need to do? • Show the class your deliverable and ASK for feedback. Force the class to engage with you!
Delivery HOW will you say it?
Tips Body language Eye contact Avoid reading off paper or slides Move Pay attention to hands Speak slowly Pauses are OK Notes? Practice!
Design How will your presentation LOOK?
Tips 40-45 words per slide Only the most important content Use visuals to support your content without distracting from it
Design This is one of the best presentations I’ve ever seen that talks about slide design: http://www.slideshare.net/alexrister1/introduction-to-slide-design (by Alex Rister) Now, what did you learn about Prezi from Shawn Apostel’s article? How can we apply Rister’s principles to Prezi?
