What We Know • The students entering the classroom have multiple learning styles, skills sets and capabilities • 2009 US Department of Education study revealed that on average, online students out performed those receiving face-to-face instructionSource: U.S. Department of Education Study • Students’ lives today are filled with technology that gives them mobile access to information and resources 24/7, enables them to create multimedia content and share it with the world, and allows them to participate in online social networks where people from all over the world share ideas, collaborate, and learn new things.Source: National Educational Technology Plan 2010
What We Know • Educational budgets are being reduced • Expectations rise • More money for education is important, but we must spend education dollars more wisely, starting with being clear about the learning outcomes we expect from the investments we make. We also must leverage technology to plan, manage, monitor, and report spending so that we can provide decision-makers with a reliable, accurate, and complete view of the financial performance of our education system at all levels. Such visibility is essential to improving productivity and accountability. Source: National Educational Technology Plan 2010, p64
