  1. Together we can stop bullying happening…

  2. Anti-Bullying Week Anti-Bullying week highlights and focuses on bullying, and encourages all children, teachers and parents to take action against bullying, not just this week but throughout the year.

  3. The theme of Anti-Bullying week this year is 'Power For Good' and we have three key aims at Our Lady and St. Paul’s:

  4. Aim Number 1 To support all the children at Our Lady and St. Paul’s to use their Power for Good, by understanding the ways in which we are powerful. Also to encourage individuals and groups to act so they are able to stop bullying and create a safe school where everyone is looked after and happy.

  5. Aim Number 2 To make sure we share our messages with our parents and carers so that they can use their Power for Good and support their children with problems relating to bullying. We want to create a strong partnership where we can work together with school to stop bullying.

  6. Aim Number 3 To encourage all teachers, school support staff to use their Power for Good, by valuing the difference they can make in a child’s life, and acting to prevent bullying and create safe environments where all children at Our Lady and St. Paul’s can be safe and achieve their best.

  7. What Is Bullying? This week is Anti-Bullying week. Q: What is bullying? • Bullying is purposely hurting someone else. • Bullying is REPETITIVE – which means it happens again and again. It is not the same as something happening once. • Bullying can be physical, verbal and mental. It hurts the victim a lot and in many different ways.

  8. What Is Bullying? Physical bullying can range from shoving and pushing someone, to more severe issues, such as hitting and kicking. It is often more obvious to other people as it may leave bruises or visible damage and people may see it happening. Verbal bullying means calling someone names, saying nasty things to someone or threatening them. • Verbal bullying is not always as clear to see as it can be done more secretly and doesn't leave visible marks. However, it damages peoples feelings and emotions and is very harmful.

  9. What do you think indirect bullying is? Physical bullying, like hitting or kicking, and verbal abuse, like calling names or making fun of someone are often more obvious to see. Leaving people out of groups or games. This hurts people's feelings, and if you do it to someone all the time, it is bullying! Gossiping about people. • Talking about someone behind their backs. • Standing by and watching. You may not be the one doing the bullying, but if you know it is happening to someone you need to tell someone.

  10. What Can You Do? It is sometimes really hard to intervene if you know someone is being bullied. Q: Why do you think that is? • Fear of being bullied yourself. • Fear that you will get in to trouble. • Fear of physical injuries. • Fear that you are getting someone you are friends with in to trouble. • But at Our Lady and St. Paul’s we have a simple message:

  11. Our Lady and St. Paul’s slogan…

  12. What Can You Do? • Tell someone you trust – a parent, teacher, older relative. If you make sure someone knows what you have seen, they can make sure it is dealt with, not you personally. • Often, someone who is being bullied feels very alone, sad and scared. Smiling at them, talking to them or including them in something you are doing can mean the world to them!

  13. These are the adults in School who have a special job of keeping you safe… Mrs Wright is the Safeguarding Lead at Our Lady and St. Paul’s and she is there if you have any concerns. Mrs Gavin and Mrs Holding also help to keep you safe in school and you can talk to them if you have a problem. Miss Aubrey, Mrs Keane, Mrs Hayward and Miss Wild are here to help if you are worried about anything or want to talk to someone.

  14. Not all bullying takes place face to face… Sometimes people can use technology to bully others.

  15. Cyberbullying Q: What is cyberbullying? In what ways do you think cyberbullying can happen? Receiving nasty or inappropriate emails. Nasty comments on social media. Someone you don't know online asks to meet you. Prank phone calls. Getting nasty or inappropriate text messages.

  16. We want you to be Safe when Using the Internet Always tell an adult before using the internet and if something worries you or pops up on the internet tell and adult. Important Rules to help you stay safe online. • Never post personal details about yourself online, e.g. address, date of birth, phone numbers or pictures. • Use nicknames • Don't post your full name, use a nickname. Don't post a picture of yourself.

  17. Don't give out your passwords to anyone else. • Lots of social media sites have a 'Report It' button. This means that if you see something upsetting, or something you think should not be being posted, you can press this button to report it to the people who run the site and they can stop it. • NEVER make conversation online with somebody you don’t know. • NEVER meet up with someone you don't know, they might not be who they say they are. Why is this so important? If someone online says they are the same age as you and in the same year group, how could this not be true?

  18. What Could You Do If You Or Someone You Know Is Being Bullied? • Tell an adult you trust, e.g. a parent, teacher, adult member of your family. • Never respond to any form of cyberbullying. Tell someone what is happening. • Use the 'Report It' button to report a problem to the social networking site. • Show whatever you receive to a responsible adult, so that they can help you. • Don't keep it to yourself! People want to help you and make it better.

  19. What message will you share this week? • Each of you has the POWER FOR GOOD not just this week but everyday you are at school. • You all have the power to make Our Lady and St. Paul’s a happy and safe place so let us use this week to share this message. • What slogan will you put on your t-shirt? • Will you wear your t-shirt with pride and stand up to bullies?
