Invented the salsa dance • Much of Cuban music comes from African background • The vocal music is spiritual singing • The roots of a lot of the Cuban music forms are from a form of social club that African slaves brought to the island. Cuban History
Claves • Made of thick wood, sometimes hollow. • With hands, clanging together • Very important to Afro-Cuban music • They are about 20-30 centimeters long
Bongos • Played with hands • Made out of types of wood and animal hides • Future bongos are made with metal
Conga Drums • Made of wood with animal hide on the top • Made with dogwood • They are played with the hands
