CAP SCIENCES Founded in 1994, CAP SCIENCES has become one of the most active science centres in France. Located at the heart of Bordeaux, CAP SCIENCES is established in a purpose-built building since 2001. CAP SCIENCES ' mission is to promote public awareness and understanding of science and technology, while highlighting the regional assets of the Aquitaine.

The context More girls than boys at university, BUT girls = 25% of students in fundamental science and engineering, and in some sections there are less than 10%. However, girls, like boys, would find exciting jobs in science and technology.
The French Award for scientific and technical vocation for girls A national prize distributed at regional level For 20 years > yearly 650 female students who choose scientific careers in which women are not well represented> 1000 euros each
In Aquitaine The regional delegation for women’s rights and equality turned to Cap Sciences 8 years ago The 28 winners chosen by the Aquitaine jury > the national allocation of 1000 €> a mentor in their chosen industry
Further outcomes • highlight the companies who give a priority to the gender dimension • raise awareness on this issue for other companies. • give role models for other girls (portraits of the award winners and mentors)
Interactive workshop for secondary schools • role play around a digital whiteboardpeople as the board of a virtual company. • science and technology are present at numerous stages of the activity • during the recruitment phase, they are confronted to their own stereotypes and prejudices regarding women at work.
Creative workshop days for young teenagers > to design radio messages to promote studies and careers in science and technology
A resource website Regional initiatives, activities, links and data about the vocation of young people and in particular girls in science and technology and the position of women in scientific careers > For parents, teachers or young people
