POLLUTION • It is defined as undesirable change in physical chemical or biological properties of air water and soil • WATER POLLUTION • It is defined as addition of some substances like organic substances to the water or change in its physical properties that consitute a health hazard and makes it less fit for use
SOURCES OF WATER POLLUTION • NATURAL SOURCES:- • The soil particales enter to water due to soil erosion minrels get dissolved in water from rocks and soil decaying of organic matter also pollutants • MAN MADE SOURCES :- • Man is main cause of water pollution .Various man made sources of pollution including organic wastes . Soaps ,detergents ,inorganic waste ,fertlizers and radioactive wastes]
MAIN WATER POLLUTATS CHEMICAL POLLUTANTS:- it include organic waste (eg.DDT,BHC)Inorganic chemicals as arsenic, radioactive wastes. PHYSICAL POLLTANTS:- IT include heat and .oil spills. BIOLOGICAL POLLUTANTS:-these include pathogens such viruses ,bacteria etc.
EFFECT OF WATER POLLUTION • Water pollutants make water unfit and less useful • Addition of very fine ,solid suspended particales or collodial ma kes water turbid. • Addition of dyes change the colour of water • Addition of plant nutrients such as nitrates and phosphate this promote growth of algae, which deoxygenate water killing fishes and other animals. • addition of oil particals in waterof sea destroy the life of sea animals. • By the water pollution we can suffer from many diseases of skin
CONTROL OF WATER POLLUTION • Pollution of water can be checked and at least minimized by the following measures • Taking bath and washing cloths in tanks and streams which supply to drinking water for humans should be prohibited • Over use of fertilizers and pestisides should be avoided. • Hot water should be cooled before release from factories. • Solid waste should be recycled where as possible. • Polluted water can be rendered harm less by sewage treatment and reused
