  2. Compound Finals Compound finals comprise a main vowel and a secondary vowel. There are four types: • main vowel + secondary vowel: ai ei ao ou • medial i + main vowel: ia iao ie iu (iou) • medial u + main vowel: ua uo uai ui (uei) • medial ü + main vowel: üe / yue
