January 28th, 2009 • People gather at places like malls, fairgrounds, schools, gymnasiums, sports fields and swimming pools. Think of a place in your town where there are lots of people. How does it look, sound, smell, and feel to be there? Now, describe that crowded place so that your reader can feel as if he or she is there.
Do Now: January 29, 2009 • Take out your homework. Underline your best sentence or two from the description you wrote last night.
Do Now: January 29, 2009 • List all the things a person can lose.
Homework • Work on your “lost” narrative piece. • Incorporate 1-2 sensory details and underline them • Incorporate a simile, metaphor, or personification—underline it • Tell your story using “lively” action verbs that you brainstormed in your groups---underline them.

January 30, 2009Do Now • Write 5 food and people metaphors/similes. In other words, compare a person (real or imagined) to food. For example, “Marianna’s hair is as red as tomato soup.” Your comparisons should create a very clear image of the person.

Do Now: Monday, February 2, 2009 • If you watched the super bowl last night, think back to your favorite commercial. Describe it using (at least): • -1 sensory detail and one strong action verb If you didn’t watch the super bowl, think back to a commercial you watched in the past. Describe it.
Menu Assignment • Create two appetizers and two entrees • Make them sound as disgusting and revolting as possible. • Model the way in which the item is described in the menu: ex…hearty green salad topped with season grilled chicken served with vine ripe tomatoes and red onions. • Use plenty of descriptive adjectives to make your dish disgusting!
Homework: Narrative Writing Piece: 1 full page typed • Follow the format for “Little Boy Lost” • Write about your gross experience at a nightmare restaurant….you walk in, everything looks great, all of a sudden, everything goes wrong…what do you notice about the way the restaurant looks? Your server, etc.? • Remember, sometimes less is more---don’t go overboard on the descriptions. Follow “Little Boy Lost”
