Sexual activity. What is Sexual Activity?. The term ‘Sexual Activity’ essentially means two or more people are intimate together – making them ‘sexually active’. This can be done through oral sex or penetrative sex.

What is Sexual Activity? • The term ‘Sexual Activity’ essentially means two or more people are intimate together – making them ‘sexually active’. • This can be done through oral sex or penetrative sex. • Protective sex uses ‘contraception’ whether it be in the form of a condom for penetrative sex (98% effective against pregnancy, 100% effective against STI’s) or in the form of a Dental Dam for oral sex (80% effective against STI’s)

Results of Unprotected Sex in Teens • Unprotected penetrative sex in teens can result in unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. • Unwanted or unplanned pregnancies can effect the parents financially and mentally- first of all, most teenagers don’t work at all or work casually. It wouldn’t be easy to find the money to raise a child. • Secondly, the parents may face negative social impacts such as bullying, not being able to go out and not being able to finish their education.

Unwanted Sexual Activity • Unwanted sexual activity effects the victims mental and spiritual health (and in severe cases physical health) quite severely. • A victim of sexual assault feels many negative emotions such as anger, loneliness, worthless, fear, betrayal, disempowerment and mistrust. Professional help is usually needed to improve the victims mental wellbeing.

  5. Safe Sex Alternatives • Although some people have thought so, sexual intercourse is not a necessary part of any relationship. But when one wishes to participate, there are other alternatives to penetrative sex such as kissing, cuddling and mutual masturbation as well as oral sex. • When participating in penetrative sex, it is important to use a condom. • According to the Third National Survey of Australian Secondary Students and Sexual Health, 25% of young people said they were drunk or high the last time they had sex. • 10% of sexually active young people were not using any form of contraception, with a further 12% saying they use the pull out method as their form of contraception.
