Connecting Families Conectando Familias

This project aims to connect recent immigrants with mental health services, reduce stigma, and integrate them into Baltimore's community. Targeted towards Spanish-speaking and Somali Bantu populations, peer mentors will assist families in accessing and navigating the health care system, improving health literacy, and connecting with community resources.

  3. Goals • Increase access to and utilization of mental health services • Reduce stigma of mental health treatment • Integrate recent immigrants into Baltimore

  4. Target population Recent immigrants who have children in Head Start or Early Head Start • Spanish-speaking • Somali Bantu

  5. Peer mentors/promotoras comunitarias help families: • connect with mental health services • feel more comfortable with mental health interventions • navigate the health care system • improve their health literacy • access community resources • learn their rights
