Mission • The Guest House Mission is to be a beacon of light to welcome the tired and the weary to a place of comfort and compassion. To be a home away from home for those who need to be close to a loved one during their sickness, and to shine within the community as a place of hospitality and kindness.

First Site Maple Street
Existing HouseEstablished in 1986 • A 4 bedroom 2 bathroom antebellum white frame house located on the VA (Veterans Affairs Building 15) campus adjacent to the Medical Center • The present house is within walking distance of the Johnson City Medical Center and the VA Medical Center

Why do weneed a new house? • Present house cannot accommodate the needs of our area medical facilities • Present house is not handicapped accessible • Present house is located on property allocated by the Federal Government to ETSU (East Tennessee State University) for expansion of medical school in the near future • Desire to continue the present level of support and improve services to the region
Our Goal • To build a 10 bedroom/bathroom guest house on the campus of Johnson City Medical Center • Continue to be a regional community asset for economic development purposes
Our Goal • Continue an affordable alternative to hotel rates or sleeping in your car: • 2009 admissions to six inpatient facilities within 5 mile radius was 34,470- 33% or 11,289 of them had to travel beyond Washington, Carter, and Sullivan counties)(10 counties: Greene, Unicoi, Johnson, Hawkins (TN); Washington, wise, Smyth, Russell, and Dickenson (VA) and Avery, NC) • Nearly 70% of the population within 10 counties has a household income of $50,000 or less compared to 50% of the US National Average • Median household income ranges from $28046 to $42078 with collective average of $35797 compared to $51287 nationally, $42989 in TN, and $60690 in VA. • Unemployment rates for 2008 ranged from 5.2% to 9.1% compared to 5.8%nationally, 4.0% in VA, and 6.4% in TN. Five of these counties exceeded the national average • In 9 of the 10 counties the percent of individuals below the poverty level exceeds the national average. The range is 13.1% to 22.6% with national average 13.2%.

Land • Land lease held by JCMC at $1 per year for 99 years (renewable)
Construction& Drawings • Estimated cost of building including land at $2,100,000 • Partnership with contractor, Tom Burleson • Work with Tim McGahey for designs
Break ground and complete inside and out • Plan to break ground as soon as possible. (we need $300,000 more for this to happen) • Estimated time to complete at 8-12 months.
