Definition • Multi Casualty Incident ( MCI ) : An accident or emergency that involves multiple victims , and overwhelms local response capability . • Incident Command System : Structural approach to emergency response integrating : • Personal Roles. • Lines of Authority. • Effective Communication.
ICS : Creates and provides for compatibility and integration of all responding agencies Simply , its system designed to save time in order to save life .
NIMS • The National Incident Management System (NIMS) : system that provide a consistent nationwide design to promote effective and efficient emergency response. • Function : Used to prepare for, prevent, respond to, and recover from domestic incidents regardless of: • Cause • Size • Complexity
principles of NIMS Flexibility, standardization, and interoperability • Flexibility : the organizational structure must flexibly and quickly adapt for use in any type of incident. • Standardization : NIMS provides standardization in terminology, resource classification, personal training, and certification. • Interoperability : allows agencies of different types to communicate with each other.
Major components of NIMS • Command and management. • Preparedness. • Resource management. • Communications and information management. • Supporting technologies . • Ongoing management and maintenance .
