The Clean Air Act • The clean air act was made for pollution control . They wanted the citizens to have clean air to breathe and have good health. • The clean air act was established to protect against the ozone layer (smog), lead, and nitrogen dioxide. • 1963- It provided funds for research in air pollution. • 1970- establish the National Air Quality Standards, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, and requirements for motor vehicle emissions. • 1977-concerned about the air quality in certain areas. • 1990-increased the authority and responsibility of the federal government and raise awareness in toxic air pollutants.
The clean air act (continue) • The EPA is responsible for regulation and enforcement of the air quality. • “In addition, the EPA sets national standards for major sources of pollution including automobiles, trucks, and electric power plants.” (cleanairtrust). • It was passed by congress in 1990 and have been a success for many years. • I think that this act is national because it was talking about the United States. • It has affected the environment issues by turning it to a better viewpoint because the ozone layer is now controlled and toxic lead has declined, so many people’s health are getting better due to cleaner air.
