GHS Golf News! The GHS varsity golf team participated in the Bengal Invitational golf tournament at Columbia Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, shooting a 645 two-day score. Though the team did not finish in the top 10, freshman Zach McLain shot a stellar two under par for 36 holes, making the all-tournament team. Caleb Proveaux also played very well, shooting four over for the tournament. Congratulations to these two golfers on a fine performance.
Congratulations to Zach Maclain… … for making the all-tournament team at the Bengal Invitational this week. Zach shot 71-71 for a two under par total of 142. Congratulations, Zach on your accomplishment! .

JV Golf Update The GHS JV golf team spilt a dual match yesterday. They lost to Lexington by 3 strokes but defeated Brookland-Cayce by a score of 179 to 215. The JV squad’s low scorers were River Rauton and Brandon Robbins, who both shot 43. The JV record now stands at 5-2-1.
Skills USA Winners Congratulations to our Skills USA Building Construction Team for winning 1st place this past weekend. Cole Riddlehoover placed third in Technical Drafting Tyler Anonie placed fourth in Architectural Drafting. Congratulations to Mr. Bryan Waters, Mr. Troy Taylor and their students on their success!
Congratulations to … Our FBLA State Leadership Conference winners: Robert Larsen—first place Desktop Application Programming Grant Sharpe—fifth place Technology Concepts Robert will travel to Anaheim, CA in June for national competition! Congratulations!
Student Trainers Anyone interested in becoming a student trainer for the 2013-2014 school year please stop by and pick up an information packet from Coach Millwood in Room 525. Student training packets are due back by May 11th.
Senior Scholarship Opportunity The Gilbert Career and Technology Student Organizations (FBLA, FFA, HOSA, and Skills USA) are offering a $400 scholarship to a senior who is planning to enter one of the Career and Technology fields taught at Gilbert High. To apply for this scholarship you must be a senior, who is a member of one or more of these organizations. See your organization's chapter advisor to receive an application. Applications must be returned to your advisor by April 30th. The scholarship will be awarded at the Career & Technology Senior Recognition Night on May 16th @ 7:00 in the Little Theater.
Lady Indian Softball Monday night the Lady Indians defeated Strom Thurmond by the score of 11 to 0 . Gabby Keisler pitched a perfect game. Top hitters were: Savannah Anderson - 2 for 4 with a triple Gabby Keisler - 2 for 4 with a homerun Kate Lee - 2 for2. Gilbert's record is now 13 wins and 10 losses, 7 and 2 in region play. Next home game is Wednesday against Pelion at 7 o'clock.
GHS Soccer Congratulations to the Boys Soccer team on their big win over 4-A White Knoll High School Friday night. The final score was 3-1. Great job, guys!
Attention HOSA Members The April meeting will be held April 23 in room #312 beginning at 6:30. We will be ordering Chick-fil-A sandwiches, so if you want a sandwich, you must sign up and pay by Monday, April 22 at 12:00 noon to one of the advisors. This will be our election meeting for our officers for 2013-2014, plus we will celebrate State!!! Hope to see all of our members there!
HOSA Elections HOSA Officer Applications for 2013-2014 are due TODAY. Please give them to Mrs. Cato, Mrs. Waites or Mrs. Sue Ellen Shealy!
HOSA Scholarship HOSA Scholarship Applications are now available from one of the HOSA Advisors or outside of room #312. You must be a senior in HOSA to apply for a scholarship. Deadline to return application is TODAY.
Prom News! It’s Prom Week!!! Tickets are on sale every day during lunch in the commons area until Thursday, April 18th. NO tickets will be sold on Friday the 19th or at the door the night of prom. Also, remember that your ticket is the only way in the door at prom. No tickets will be reissued if lost. If you lose your ticket before prom you will have to purchase a new one. Please take good care of the one you are issued. Be sure you and your guest have your tickets when entering GHS 2013 prom. Students will not be allowed to enter prom without your assigned and numbered ticket.
Prom Info. Continued … ANon GHS StudentGUEST MUST HAVE A PICTURE ID TO ENTER PROM-NO EXCEPTIONS . Permission forms for non-GHS students should be turned in when ticket is purchased. (Extra forms are outside the help desk office and attached in the original email sent to you about tickets). Photo package information will be handed out along with your tickets. Money for pictures must be brought the night of prom. Please remember, policies and procedures are set in place for your protection and to ensure your prom with be a great one! Please feel free to email Ms. Hendrix if you have any questions.
Gilbert Sports Physicals Gilbert High School: May 7th Cost: $20 ***Packets Due Back: April 26th ** Only 75 spots available . Students will be given a time based on the order packets are turned back in to GHS** **Remember physicals for the 2013-2014 sports seasons must be dated on or after April 1st, 2013. **
Attention Seniors Do YOU have perfect attendance for your 12 years of high school? Well, then you may be eligible for a Perfect Attendance Award! Each year, the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) honors graduating seniors who have 12 years of perfect attendance with a special certificate and personal letter signed by the State Superintendent of Education. If you think you are eligible, then see Mrs. Smith in attendance to apply for this recognition.
Attention AFJROTC Students… All students who were in AFJROTC first semester, please contact Cadet Captain Nikki Bittinger about purchasing your Awards Banquet/Military Ball tickets and about further details. If you fundraised, tickets are $15, if you did not fundraise, tickets are $30 . The Awards Banquet/Military Ball is on May 4, 2013 at the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Columbia.
