What is IGIC? • A nonprofit 501(c)3 • A membership organization • Administered by elected board of directors • Statewide coordinating body for Indiana geographic information Our Mission: To lead the effective application of geographic information in Indiana

  7. IGIC 2008 Projects Summary IndianaMap Training ($5,000.00) • State Library affiliates trained on IndianaMap • Creation of an IndianaMap pamphlet IndianaMap redesign coming in the near future

IGIC 2008 Projects Summary FGDC CAP Grant: Return on Investment Study ($50,000.00) (2005 Orthos/IndianaMap) • Study identified current spending, duplication of effort, needs, benefits, & financial & non-financial returns. • 312 respondents—diverse user group • 86% report orthophotography essential for operations • Articles covering ROI, state funding strategies, quotes, and success stories • Report mailed to legislators, county officials and cities and towns • Completed August 2008

IGIC 2008 Projects Summary FGDC CAP Grant: Return on Investment Study ($50,000.00) (2005 Orthos/IndianaMap) $1.7 Billion Supported by the IndianaMap 34:1 Return on Investment Scope of Indiana Projects “In short…an initial investment of $8.5 million supports over 200-times its value in projects and operations—with 86% of users indicating they could not do their projects without it.” Jill Salegoe-Simmel

IGIC 2008 Projects Summary USGS Grant: Address Integration for the IndianaMap ($288,000.00) • An IndianaMap framework data layer • Provides mechanism for integrating addresses seamlessly • 13 participating counties • 10 county’s worth of data in place and ready for testing • Completed December 2008

IGIC 2008 Projects Summary USGS Grant: National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Stewardship ($25,000.00) • Identify NHD steward to perform training, maintenance & updates for one local watershed • Waters Workgroup worked with Hamilton Co • Outcome • Better understanding of local maintenance & update effort • Completed September 2008 1:24,000 NHD (red) over results from Pilot Project (blue) 1:96,430
