plankton • “Sea soup” made up of tiny shrimp (krill) & tiny algae & seaweed.

bloom • Large group of plankton floating on the ocean surface

Squid • An ink-squirting sea animal with a tube-shaped body and ten arms with tentacles

herd • A group of animals. A herd of whales is usually called a pod.

plunging • Diving quickly down into the water

Pack-Ice • Sea ice that forms when pieces of floating ice get crushed together.

surface • 1. The top part or layer of something • 2. To come up to the surface

froth • Bubbles that form in liquid, foam

waterspout • A stream of water that shoots from a whale’s blowhole when it comes to the surface for air and exhales • Also called a spout
