Introduction • Briefly summarize the text • Introduce major claim and counter-claims • State major and minor claims • HINT: This may sound a lot like a thesis statement
Claim with evidence • Each minor claim should be addressed in its own paragraph • Each minor claim should be supported with a specific line or detail from the text • When using evidence from the text follow these steps: • Introduce the evidence • State the evidence • Explain the evidence
Counter-claim Transition from the claim to the counter-claim Use a specific line from the text to support the counter-claim
Rebuttal This is sometimes a separate paragraph, or included in the same paragraph as the counter-claim Use a line from the text (different than lines you have already used) to support your rebuttal
Conclusion Reiterate your major and minor claims Briefly touch on your counter-claim Reiterate your rebuttal End with a concluding statement
