  4. Introduction

  5. Introduction • In-flight medical and cardiac emergencies always occur • air travels are increasing every year.

  6. Introduction • Not so many researches about problem, • Limited experience of physicians, • Lack of formal medical education.

  7. Introduction • Airlines do not record Cardiac emergencies as a standard format. • Telemedicine is considered to provide health care at a distance.

  8. Methods • systematic review, • pubmed articles, • from 2000-2015.

  9. Results • Every year in America, • 17000 in-flight medical emergencies.

  10. Results • (Siverman 2009, • Muhm2007, • Gallagher 2004, • and Hackett 2001): • There are potential stresses in air travel.

  11. Results • Commercial airplanes are pressurized • If pressure reduction happens, there would be a serious problem; • hypoxia.

  12. Results • Cardiac and respiratory patients (symptomatic coronary disease, uncompensated heart failure, heart congenital and valvular disorders, sickle cell anemia, and sleep apnea) will suffer from lack of oxygen (Hypoxia).

  13. Results • Chest pain and cardiovascular emergencies • have diverted flights in most instances (Chandra et al, 2013).

  14. Discussion and conclusion • Telemedicine • seems the best solution for the problem, • especially with supervision of an aerospace medicine specialist.

  15. Discussion and conclusion • Suggestions proposed by aerospace medicine: • Travelers screening, • Educational programs for travelers, • Education of aircrew, • Founding a central standard recording system, • Designing proper medical kits for airplanes, • Considering telemedicine as the basic necessity for emergencies (especially cardiac) in air travel.

  16. Thanks
