  2. How Student Employment Works • Federal Work Study (FWS) • Source of Federal Financial Assistance • Earnings are sheltered on subsequent FAFSA • Awarded to all qualified students • Awards are generally $1,500.00 • Money is not applied to your Franklin Pierce Account

  3. How Student Employment Works • Franklin Pierce Institutional Work Program • Not a source of financial aid • Not sheltered from earnings on FAFSA • Earnings are not capped

  4. Franklin Pierce University Student Employment Jobs • Partnership between SFS and HR • SFS awards FWS • FWS student have hiring preference for jobs • SFS compiles open positions and posts online • Student initiates interview process

Franklin Pierce University Student Pre-Employment Process Work Authorization Documents: • Each student must complete an • I9 & W4 document (with FPU – HR Dept) • INS requires that you present ORIGIONAL documents to the Human Resource Dept. • Once you have completed these forms, HR will have your work papers waiting for you in your FPU mail box when you arrive in August!

  6. Now What? • Each job you are hired for will require that you provide a work paper document for them to complete. • Once that form is completed, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure the form is submitted to HR before you start work. • Please remember: No form = volunteer work!

Types of jobs • Community Service based • Off campus positions • Positions in the Community Service Office • Office/Clerical • Administrative departments on campus (HR, SFS, Registrar • Technical jobs in IT • Maintenance positions • Positions with Sodexho • Positions in the library • Positions in academic departments

  8. A Day in the Life… • Most students do not work more than 10 hours per week • We limit student employment to no more than 20 hours per week during classes • Work schedule takes into account classes, exams, special projects • Flexibility among supervisors

  10. Payroll • FPU pays on a bi-weekly schedule. • Paper vs. Electronic Time Cards • In September we will be moving to electronic time card submission. Ease of Access – No excuses! • Direct Deposit • Bank fee’s for check cashing • Immediate Access
