Types • Categorical grants: grants for a specific purpose • Block grants: grants for a purpose, but has a broad range of possibilities • General purpose assistance: has no use restriction and is from one level of government to another
Facts • Most federal grant dollars are spent on formula grants, but the majority of grants are “project grants,” which are smaller in amounts • More grant money annual goes to individuals then for infrastructure • Types of grants change with presidencies
