Principle #1: “Don’t Make Me Think” Webpage should not be difficult to use Simple Easy and clear links to click Clear purpose of the page
Principle #2: “Thought In Each Click” • Small amount of thought should be required before every click is made • Keeps the user interested and engaged • Not necessarily the number of clicks, but the quality of those clicks. • Leads to positive user experience
Principle #3: “Defining Location” • Important to keep user knowledgeable of who’s site they are on • Ex) MSNBC logo in corner of every single page • Obvious to the user when they have left your pages • Important for user safety and trust
Principle #4: “Keep It Simple” • After finishing site, delete half of the words • General guideline • Short and sweet • Eliminate unneeded noise and data • Allow the user to easily accomplish what they came to the site for
Principle #5: “Rotate Your Stock” Don’t allow the page to become stale Rotate promotions and other items into different spots on the webpage Stops users from viewing the webpage as boring, unattractive Increases frequency of user visits
