What are we made for?

First Weekend – Second Reading • Ephesians 4:1-6 • Live the Christian Life in Unity with the Church • First Glance: Live worthy of the call received; virtuously; for the sake of unity, in one body, one Spirit, one hope • Under the Hood: • Eucharist is the sign and sacrament of unity. • Unity founded on Truth • Sacrament not for everyone! • To ‘preserve’ requires an agent of preservation. • Someone to resolve disputes. -> Il Papa! -> He must be infallible

First Weekend - Gospel • John 6:1-15 • Feeding of the 5,000 • First Glance: • Miraculous feeding of 5,000 by Jesus with just a few loaves and fisheses. • Jesus runs away from being made an earthly king. • Under the Hood • Feeding of 5,000 and the Last Supper both took place during Passover. • The 5,000 and the Apostles ‘reclined’ (same Greek word)

First Weekend - Gospel • Under the Hood - …Continued • Explicit mention of grass… why? • Reference to Ps. 23, where there is also a reclining. • Also on a mountain • Ezek. 34, “I will feed them with good pasture, and upon the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on fat pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel.” • Took… Gave thanks… distributed… reclining… • Parallel the Last Supper • Have their fill -> ‘whole Christ’ in the Eucharist
