What is this article about? • Marty Walsh ran for mayor against John Connely • Walsh defeated Connely52% to 48%. • Marty Walsh is the first Irish American Mayor of Boston in more than 20 years. • Walsh received support from unions nationwide. • One of only a handful of mayors nationwide who is also a labor leader. • Will take office January 6th. • He takes over for Thomas Menino who has been mayor since 1994. • Walsh received a call from Barack Obama congratulating him on his victory.
