Higher Education Academy • The Higher Education Academy (HEA) champions excellence • in learning and teaching in higher education. • We are committed to improving the student learning experience by raising the status of teaching, adding to the body of knowledge relating to pedagogy, enhancing professional teaching practice, and facilitating networks and communities of practice. • We work in partnership with institutions, student bodies, academic and professional staff , and sector agencies and funders. • The Higher Education Academy Strategic Plan 2012-2016

HEA Academic Practice We develop and disseminate learning and teaching knowledge in our discipline areas but also through some cross-cluster activities including: • Teaching Development Grants • International Scholarships • PhD Studentships • Journals • UK Travel Grants • Resource Centre
International Scholarships • designed to benefit the UK Higher Education sector by seeking and bringing back interesting, challenging and innovative learning and teaching practice to the UK. • significant need for international policy and practice in HE learning and teaching to be shared and learnt. • supports individuals in the sector to undertake specific investigations outside of the UK and deliver specific outcomes for dissemination within the UK sector at the end of the scholarships through various means, as appropriate to enhance the UK student learning experience. • ambassadorial role for key UK learning and teaching figures internationally and nationally
The story so far…. • Call opened 25 November 2011 • Email queries: 105 • Phone queries: approx 100 • Call closed 31 January 2012 • 28 applications were received • We were able to fund 14 applications • Announcement 24 May 2012 • Celebratory Launch 13 June 2012
