The life and times ofGuglielmoMarchese Marconi A biography by ALBERTO D. (mod 7)
Intro I know what some of you are thinking: who the heck is this guy? I can’t even pronounce his name! Well, lets start off with this: his name is GuglielmoMarconi. He was born in Bologna, Italy on April 25th, 1874. He was an inventor, a scientist (duh)in the field of electricity, and he is credited for something that makes road trips not so bad: the radio. He died on July 20th, 1937 in the age 63.
Greatness from small beginnings Guglielmo, as a youth in Italy, privately studied in the fancy cities of Florence, Bologna, Florence, and Leghorn. His interest in Physical science, Electrical science, and morse code that he was teased for back then would end up changing the world later (and making him super rich.). After a blind, elderly man he used to read to taught a young Gugliemomorse code, nothing could stop him from experimenting…
The experiments... In 1884, at twenty years old, Guglielmo began to experiment, (like a mad scientist I might add.), at his father’s estate in Sasso, Italy. His goal: to somehow send wireless signals to two different locations, something that has never been done before. And after many, many, attempts, in the end of that year, he showed his mother something that back then was extraordinary: a wireless signal successfully sent! After his father saw this, people say that he took out his wallet on spot and gave him all the money in it to help Guglielmo buy more materials to experiment more!
success After more experimenting and demonstrations, powerful people started to notice his work and saw that they could use hisnew invention as a benefit. After sending a wireless transmission through 8.7 miles (across water), Italy wanted to use this invention for their ships. After making an offer that Gugliemo couldn’t refuse, he went to the king and queen of Italy, to present his miraculous invention. After a good demonstration, the king and queen gave him their congratulations: alongside rewards. After this he would go on to start his own telegram busnisesses and become rich and famous.
