Electron Configuration Rules and Principles Explained | Students Education Circle

Learn the rules of electronic configuration (Aufbau, Hund’s, and Pauli’s exclusion), Pauli Exclusion Principle - no two electrons can have the same quantum numbers, and Hund’s Rule - distributing electrons in degenerate orbitals. 1. S.L.O 2.7.1 state the rules of electronic configuration (Aufbau, Hund’s, and Pauli’s exclusion); K

  2. Pauli Exclusion Principle: no two electrons can be identified by the same set of quantum numbers (i.e. must have different spins) PAULI EXCLUSION PRINCIPLE

  3. HUNDS RULE • Hund's Rule states that if 2 or more degenerate (i.e. same energy) orbitals are available, one electron goes into each until all of them are half full before pairing up .

  4. AUFBAU RULE • electrons will fill the lower energy level before moving to higher energy orbitals.
