INTRODUCTION • Regional Rural Bank Act 1976 sowed the seeds of Assam GraminVikash Bank. • RRB Act 1976 brought five regional rural banks into existence in Assam. • On 12th January, 2006 AGVB was established by the amalgamation of four out of five regional rural banks.
Banks amalgamated were – • PragjyotishGaonlia Bank (Estd. 06-07- 1976), • LakhimiGaonlia Bank (Estd. 29-07-1980), • CacharGramin Bank (Estd. 31-03-1981) • SubansiriGaonlia Bank (Estd. 30-03-1982).
OBJECTIVES • Better customer service from better infrastructure, branch computerization, pool of experienced work force, unified publicity and marketing efforts. • Reaping economies of scale with larger area of operation, enhanced credit exposure limits. • Opportunities for diverse banking activities, leading to higher business growth.

DEPARTMENTATION BY CUSTOMER • In an AGVB branch this departmentation is followed. • Grouping of activities on the basis of customer interest. Example: - Fixed Deposit schemes, Loan Schemes
