Date of Establishment: 01November, 2012. • (After amalgamation of Erstwhile Uttaranchal Gramin Bank and Nainital Almora Kshetriya Gramin Bank) • Area of Operation: All 13 districts of Uttarakhand. • Other RRB in the State: None • UGB is having the 2nd Largest Network of Branches in Uttarakhand.
FINANCIAL POSITION OF UGB • The CRAR of UGB as on 31st March 2013 is 14.63% as against the prescribed 9%.

EFFECT OF NATURAL CALAMITY TO BANKING SECTOR • More than 10 Branches Premises and assets in Hills affected due to Natural Calamity. • 1070186 Borrowers/ Units financed by Banks affected due to Calamity in Uttarakhand State in June-July 2013. • 474279 Borrowing Units were eligible for Restructuring and extended Moratorium Period. • Out of the above 328339 Borrowing units were given extended Moratorium and 52949 Units (Amount Rs. 4179 Cr) Restructured by 30 Sept. 2013 by Ball Banks in Uttarakhand. • 107211 fresh loans (Amount Rs. 285 Cr.) were issued to calamity affected people by Banks in Uttarakhand upto 30 Sept. 2013.
INITIATIVES BY BANKING SECTOR • NON-INSTITUTIONAL EFFORTS • Branches/ Staff of Bank extended immediate shelter to the tourists/ homeless people with the help of local people. • Free Call/ Telephone facility to the Tourists to contact their relatives. • Arranged Free fooding to the tourists after calamity with the help of local people. • Arranged Medicine Packets through the contributions of staff and distributed to affected people/tourists. • Staff of UGB in remote hills helped in locating the people from far-off areas who were separated during that period. • Helped in funerals of the dead people. • Contributed 1 Day Salary by all staff in the Chief Minister Relief Fund
INITIATIVES BY BANKING SECTOR • INSTITUTIONAL EFFORTS • Convened a Meeting of All Banking Heads in Uttarakhand State. • Convened a meeting by RBI and NABARD to discuss the measures to be initiated by Banks in Uttarakhand State. • All Banks operating in Uttarakhand extended whole-hearted support to the Natural Calamity affected people. • Disbursed fresh Loans to the affected people generously. • Immediately stopped the Recovery Proceedings in affected areas. • Extended Restructuring facility to the affected customers. • Extended Conversion facility to the borrowers. • Liberal and hassle-free settlement of Claims in respect of man-power or Assets financed by banks. • UGB already had a “Free Accidental Insurance of Rs. 1 Lac” for all Savings Bank A/C holders, including “Zero Balance A/Cs”.
INITIATIVES BY BANKING SECTOR • EFFORTS BY UGB • Instructed immediately after calamity to all Branch Managers/ Staff to extend all possible help to the affected people. • Instructed all Branches to disburse fresh loans to the affected people. • Restructured /Rephased the Loans of affected people as a Special Drive in all branches. • Settled the Claims of Free Accidental Insurance with the support from National Ins. Co. Ltd. • UGB in collaboration with Uttarakhand Women and Child Development Ministry launched Grameen Gas Connection Scheme in mostly affected areas. • Tie-up Arrangement with National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation for extending loans to these people. • Fresh Home Loans to the affected people.
INITIATIVES BY BANKING SECTOR • EFFORTS BY UGB-2 • Arranged the meeting with affected borrowers and extended them fresh Loans. • Engaged NGOs for extending the help to Borrowers/ affected people. • Arranged Special Camps of Financial Literacy & Credit Counseling Centres established by UGB in all 13 Districts. • Enhanced Financing through Joint Liability Groups and Self Help Groups. • Published Advertisements in News papers advising Tourists to visit Uttarakhand now, which is a safe place now to boost the Tourism activity in the State.
Request from Govt. Agencies: • To Devise Subsidy Linked Loan Schemes for Natural Calamity Affected Areas. • To extend Refinance facility from NABARD/NHB/Finance Corporations etc at concessional interest rates to the Banks operating in Uttarakhand State. • To ease the NPA Norms for the Loan Accounts in Uttarakhand state for 2- Years. • The Govt. Deptts. (Central as well as State Govt.) and their agencies to extend support and full cooperation in the Endeavour of Banks in Rebuilding Uttarakhand. • Opening New Skill Development and Training Institutes in Hills and Calamity affected areas. • Infrastructure Development and alternate arrangements for transportation. • Enhancing Communication Channels at remote locations.
Request from Govt. Agencies-2: • To launch massive Publicity Campaign Nationwide and Worldwide to attract the Tourist in the State. • To have a sense of belief in the mind of international community that Uttarakhand is safe now, to launch Electronic Media publicity campaign. • Arranging Seminars/ inviting people from different walks of life in Uttarakhand to make them feel safe in Uttarakhand. • Special Concessional Tour Packages for Tourists. • Tax holiday for all types of Tourism related activities including the Taxi Cabs etc. • Setting up industrial estates in hills to generate the local employment. • To provide alternate means of employment in hills establishing units in Public Private Partnership (PPP) Mode.
Request from Govt. Agencies-3: • To establish Eco-friendly units in Hills. • Making wider use of Information Technology. • To strengthen Weather Forecast System. • Registrations of Tourists and keeping their record on-line, which can be used in future to re-attract them to explore the hidden paradise of Uttarakhand. • Insurance Cover for the Tourists coming to Uttarakhand. • Strengthening the Disaster Recovery Management in Uttarakhand. • Allocating Agriculture Land to the farmers affected due to calamity. • Strengthening Agriculture, Allied Agriculture/ Animal Husbandry/Poultry/Bee Keeping segment. • Free Crop Insurance for Small and Marginal Farmers. • Interest Subvention to be extended for Activities allied to Agriculture.
